Bagdogra to Maney Bhanjyang

We start our adventure in Bagdogra. You can opt for the Roads & Journeys pick up from Bagdogra or make your own arrangements, but do let us know in advance. Transport from Bagdogra to Maney Bhanjyang and return from Shepi to Bagdogra is not included in the trek fee. Participants are expected to share the cost of travel.

Once everybody has assembled, we embark on a 3 hour ride to Maney Bhanjyang. After checking into our accommodation, take the free time to get to know the other members of the group. It’s also a great time to poach us with any questions you have about the trek. Relax the night away.

Maney Bhanjyang To Tonglu

After the customary group photo, we start the trek with a long walk through concrete roads which are also used by vehicles. This makes it a relatively easy trek for beginners. As the roads get mistier, you pass two beautiful monasteries in Chitre and Meghma and even get to stroll through the Nepal.

You will get to see the pillars marking the border of India and Nepal at Chitrey. Once we reach Tonglu, you will be checked into a guesthouse with basic facilities taken care of. Take the evening to engage in some fun and games with the group. 

Tonglu To Kalpokhari

Wake up early and make a small trek uphill to catch the awe-inspiring Sleeping Buddha and the third highest peak in the world – Kanchenjunga. After a hearty breakfast, set off for the next destination. You will get to trek up a long pathway that will remind you of the Great Wall Of China.

The flora along the route adds to the beauty of the environs around. We also get to visit the Singalila National Park. With a lunch stop in Gairibas, we move ahead to our destination for the night – Kalpokhari. It is a 2.5 hour trail with a slight elevation. Here you will be staying in guesthouses as well.

Kalpokhari To Sandakphu

Start your morning by a small lake where you can catch the sunrise. When you’ve had your fill, make your back to the guesthouse for breakfast and gear up to say hello to Sandakphu. The path is an exciting one where you get to walk through bushes instead of the concrete road. This helps you prepare for the semi-high altitude climb up to Sandakphu. Though just a 6km trek, this is the most rigorous climb of the trek. We reach by lunch and rest for a while before proceeding for an evening stroll around the area. 

Sandakphu To Molley Via Thokum & Sabargram

Wake up extra early in the morning to catch the sunrise. The feeling of the warm sun against you after a cold night is something you must experience for sure. We embark on a 16km trek which is relatively easier as compared to the previous day’s excursion. The four peaks and Sleeping Buddha follow you along your descent, making sure that you get your fill of the Himalayan giants.

The route is scenic and you will be making a couple of pit stops just to take photos. There is a tea stop at Sabargram where you can refuel your energy with a hot cup of caffeine. The rest of the walk to Molley is easy. Check into your guesthouse and relax the night away.

Molley To Gorkhey Via Phalut

There are two ways of reaching Gorkhey. If you are feeling adventurous, you can march upwards towards Phalut, one of the loftiest peaks in the Singalila range. The other is to continue down the forest and reach Gorkhey directly. For those travelling to Phalut, get ready for a freezing walk along paths covered with frozen dewdrops.

The view of the sunrise from the top is completely worth the detour. Once again you can hop across India and Nepal in just a few steps. The route that takes you directly to Gorkhey is downhill through a lush forest with a vast bamboo plantation. Marvel at the autumn colours around you while passing through chestnut, pine and hemlock forests.. By lunch time you are at Gorkhey. In the evening you can take a leisure walk around the area. The nights are reserved for games with the group.

Gorkhey To Sepi Via Samanden & Rammam

The next day is all about trekking to Sepi with a small tea stop at Rammam.The trail is gradual with steep ascents through a forest from Gorkhey to Rammam. But from Rammam, it is a complete descent through different forests to Sepi. The valley is surrounded by thick pine forest and a small river flowing in between, known as Gorkhey Khola, which separates the boundary between Sikkim and West Bengal.

For those who want to enjoy a dip in the river, we’ll gladly join in. Just before reaching Sepi, you get to walk over a wooden bridge that is covered with Buddhist prayer flags. Once you reach Sepi, there will be transport ready to take you to Siliguri. This is also the last day of the trek.
